This course provides veterinarians with a comprehensive overview of loco-regional anaesthesia techniques for the pelvic limb in dogs. Participants will learn the anatomy, indications, and practical applications of sciatic, femoral, and saphenous nerve blocks, alongside epidural anaesthesia. The course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice using ultrasound-guided, nerve stimulator and landmark-based techniques to enhance pain management and perioperative care. Ideal for veterinarians seeking to improve analgesic protocols and patient outcomes in orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries.

Course lectures:

1. Basics on loco regional anaesthesia (a review on local anaesthetics and techniques to perform local anaesthesia including nerve stimulator and ultrasound settings)

2. Pelvic limb blocks (including sciatic, femoral, saphenous nerve block and epidural nerve block)

3. Hands on session

Oscar Bautista Díaz-Delgado graduated from the University of Extremadura in Spain in 2013. Subsequently, he completed a one-year rotating internship at the same institution. Following this, he worked as an anaesthesia clinician at the University Alfonso X El Sabio in Madrid for 2 and a half years. In March 2017, Oscar joined the Small Animal Teaching Hospital in Liverpool as an intern specializing in small animal anaesthesia. He then pursued a standard European residency program in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia at the same institution. He became European specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia in 2021. Currently, he provides expert anaesthesia care to various hospitals in the UK as a locum anaesthetist. Oscar's primary interests lie in anaesthesia for critical patients, loco-regional anaesthesia, and pain management.
