Arthroscopy basics – Elbow and Shoulder Joint (EN)

This two-day hands-on course will focus on basic principles of arthroscopy, clinical decision making, indications and limitations of the use of arthroscopy for the canine elbow and shoulder joint. The first part will include handling of arthroscopic equipment, image orientation, triangulation, working portal preparation and irrigation management. The second part will focus on the establishment of the optical and working portal for elbow and shoulder arthroscopy, assessment and orientation of the joint, arthroscopic therapy for fragmented processus coronoideus (FCP), Osteochondrosis dissecans (OCD) and biceps tenotomy.

1 Day

09:00-10:30 Theoretical introduction: “Basic principles of arthroscopy”.

10:30-10:45 Coffee break

10:45-12:30 Wet-Lab: Practice of the technique on models

12:30-13:30 Lunch break (lunch included)

13:30-15:00 Theoretical introduction: “Arthroscopy of the shoulder joint”

15:00-17:45 Wet-Lab: Arthroscopy of the shoulder joint – OCD, biceps tenotomy

17:45-18:00 Wrap-up discussion

 

2 Day

09:00-10:30 Theoretical introduction: “Arthroscopy of the elbow joint”

10:30-10:45 Break

10:45-12:30 Wet-Lab: Elbow arthroscopy – FCP removal

12:30-13:30 Lunch break (lunch included)

13:30-16:45 Wet-Lab: Elbow arthroscopy – FCP partial coronoidectomy, OCD lesions

16:45-17:00 Wrap-up discussion

Karol schloss sein Studium an der Veterinärmedizinischen Universität in Kosice (2011) ab. Die klinische Rotationen durchlief er an der VetMedUni in Wien. Im Anschluss arbeitete er in zahlreichen Kleintierkliniken in Deutschland und Österreich. Die spezialisierte chirurgische Ausbildung (Residency ECVS) absolvierte er an der Freien Universität Berlin, mit dem erfolgreichen Abschluss im Jahr 2020 als “Diplomate ECVS“. Seit dem ist er als Oberarzt für Chirurgie an der Kleintierklinik Ludwigsburg in Deutschland tätig. Im Jahr 2021 hat er zusätzlich den Titel “Fachtierarzt für Kleintierchirurgie“ erworben.
Zahlreiche Erfahrungen in Bezug auf Lehre und als Instruktor konnte Karol an der Freien Universität sowie in zahlreichen internationalen Kursen, Vorträgen und Workshops sammeln. Zu seinen größten Interessen gehören die fortgeschrittene Orthopädie, Gelenkschirurgie und Arthroskopie.
Karol ist als aktiver Konsultant für den führenden Hersteller von Orthopädie- und Arthroskopie-Technik, der Firma Arthrex ® tätig.

Matt studierte an der Veterinärmedizinischen Universität in Kosice. Nach erfolgreichem Abschluss (2011) arbeitete er in verschiedenen spezialisierten Überweisungszentren und Praxen in Deutschland, der Niederlande und England. Die spezialisierte chirurgische Ausbildung (Residency ECVS) absolvierte er an der Universität in Bristol, welche er im Jahr 2020 erfolgreich mit dem Titel “Diplomate ECVS“ abschloss. 
Schon seit 2016 ist Matt an zahlreichen Weiterbildungsprogrammen, Workshops und Kongressen in England und Europa beteiligt.
Momentan ist er als Oberarzt für Orthopädie in einer Überweisungsklinik 'Manchester Veterinary Specialists' in England tätig. Zu seinen Hauptinteressen gehören elektive Gelenkschirurgie und Arthroskopie. Er ist ein Mitglied der ECVS-Prüfung Komission.
